Flower Mound parks and trails, by the town's own numbers

The Town of Flower Mound maintains more than 1,000 acres of parkland, including about 64 miles of multi-purpose trails at least 8 feet wide [S1], and counts 58 parks [S3]. Its signature park is Heritage Park, and its lake park is Twin Coves on Grapevine Lake, with cabins and RV sites [S4][S5]. Every figure below comes from the town's own pages.

The system in numbers

The town's Parks and Recreation Department says it maintains more than 1,000 acres of parkland, about 13.55 acres per 1,000 residents [S1]. That includes about 64 miles of multi-purpose trails 8 feet wide or wider, linking parks, neighborhoods, schools and businesses, plus 4.2 miles of equestrian trails [S1]. The town's trails page gives a slightly higher count, more than 66 miles of 8-foot paved hike-and-bike trail, grown from the first 3 miles built in 1989 with a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant [S2]. Both are the town's own figures. Along the north shore of Grapevine Lake, on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park property, another 10.3 miles of equestrian trails and 34.3 miles of unpaved hike-and-bike trails are open to the public [S1]. The department also runs a community recreation center, a senior center and an RV campground [S3]. The Flower Mound city profile has the verified population, market and commute figures to weigh alongside the parks.

Heritage Park: the signature park

The town calls Heritage Park, at 600 Spinks Road, its award-winning signature park [S4]. It lists the Heritage Springs splash pad, the Fort Wildflower playground, a performance pavilion, an 18-hole disc golf course, the Wildlife Encounter Trail with bronze sculptures of native animals, a nature overlook, an outdoor fitness area, and a pond with a boardwalk and waterfall that is popular for fishing [S4]. On the park's east side is the Hound Mound, the town's 5-acre dog park, with separate areas for small and large dogs [S4].

Twin Coves: the lake park

Twin Coves Park and Campground covers 243 acres on the north shore of Grapevine Lake, with 19 furnished, temperature-controlled cabins, 22 RV sites, primitive tent sites and a small-craft boat ramp [S5]. The town also lists a playground, two large pavilions, a four-hole disc golf course, hike-and-bike nature trails, kayak rentals and a lake overlook with a fire pit [S5]. Entry is $10 per vehicle per day, and annual passes cost $45 for Flower Mound residents and $75 for non-residents [S5]. Primitive camping is $20 a night, and overnight rentals are open to anyone 21 or older [S5].

Newer parks and what's planned

Canyon Falls Park, at 6425 Stonecrest Road in west Flower Mound, opened in June 2024. The 10.5-acre park has a shaded splash pad, a nature-themed playground, a full-size basketball court, fitness equipment, trails and a reservable pavilion [S6]. The town has also finished a conceptual master plan for Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park, a 38.5-acre property at 1850 Timber Creek Road, after buying 7.4 adjacent acres from Lewisville ISD in 2021 [S3]. A study of expanding and renovating the Community Activity Center is complete, and the town says that project is being considered for a future bond election; no election has been called on the page [S3].
